Who We Are

Gobyahan is a nonprofit storytelling platform that uses film and multimedia to tell Somali stories, preserve cultural memory, and raise awareness about climate change. We center young Somali storytellers, ensuring that the people closest to these stories are the ones telling them.

Storytelling

We train young Somali filmmakers and multimedia storytellers to share stories rooted in their own communities and lived experiences.

Climate Awareness

We document how drought, environmental change, and shifting livelihoods are reshaping Somali communities and pastoral traditions.

Cultural Preservation

We safeguard oral histories, poetry, songs, and traditional knowledge tied to the land — before they are lost.
